Sridhar Vembu’s prediction on IT
Zoho’s founder Sridhar Vembu is confident that artificial intelligence will automate the vast majority of coding work. He credits this to the mundane nature of programming work, which can easily be managed by AI.
In a recent X posts Sridhar Vembu says, “When people say “AI will write 90% of the code” I readily agree because 90% of what programmers write is “boiler plate”. There is “essential complexity” in programming and then there is a lot of “accidental complexity” (that is the boiler plate stuff) and this is very old wisdom from the Mythical Man Month. AI is doing a great job eliminating the accidental complexity. Humans still needed to deal with the essential complexity.

“In essence, AI can make mincemeat of patterns already discovered (by humans). Can it find totally new patterns? As with humans, that is much rarer and a quality known as “taste” or “knowing where to dig” or “follow a hunch or conviction all the way” is needed to discover new patterns. I don’t know if AI can do this. I don’t know if that can be brute forced”.

Sam Altman Supports the point
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman indicated artificial intelligence has the potential to cut the need for software engineers in the future. While it is not something that will happen overnight, the trend is obvious. “Every software engineer will just do so much, so much more for a while,” he explained. “And then eventually, yeah, perhaps we do need fewer software engineers.”
As AI is progressing, so is its part in software creation. While professionals concur that AI will dominate more coding activity, there remains debate as to whether it is capable of displacing human problem-solving in required complexity.
