- Ghibli Styled Images, Which is produced by Open AI, has Accusations of Personal Data Breach.
- The Consequences of creating the Ghibli image with a prompt of uploading personal photos gave users fear that the uploaded images might get misused.
- The risks are real that experts and other technical personalities says that after uploading the personal image, the file has all the permissions because of the willing upload of the user.
How a Breach Can Be Occurred?
To generate the Ghibli Styled images, the initial need is to upload the users personal photos. The uploaded image then put into a process in the OpenAi‘s Cloud with the consent of the users. As a result the Ghibli Styled images are generated with the uploaded image. This process of generating the images arose the question that “Is uploading my Personal Image is safe?”.
Anyone with ill intent will create AI image generators, making it very simple to produce false evidence. They will be capable of producing them in minutes and for practically nothing, heightening the motive for any malicious players to scale up and improve the quality of their fraud.
The Don’ts Have Done
Interesting debates and posts by the AI activist and Technicians is trending and supports the question of the data privacy. Proton, one of the privacy supportive company states in X posts that “Think this is a fun trend? Think again. While some don’t have an issue sharing selfies on social media, the trend of creating a “Ghibli-style” image has seen many people feeding OpenAI photos of themselves and their families”.
“Aside from the risks of data breaches, once you share personal photos with AI, you lose control over how they are used, since those photos are then used to train AI. For instance, they could be used to generate content that may be defaming or used as harassment, Many AI models, particularly those used in image generation, rely on large training datasets. In some cases, photos of you, or with your likeness, might be used without your consent. Lastly, your data could be used for personalized ads and/or sold to third parties”.
Clarity Of The Concern
Now, what’s particularly concerning is the amount of personal information many users voluntarily share everything from their deep gallery, thoughts and opinions, to sensitive data including medical details. But what strikes me as even more concerning is the growing trend of users uploading photos into these systems. Sharing photos with Al tools has the potential to disclose location, facial recognition signatures, and other metadata, thereby creating privacy malpractices, particularly to children and something I would caution users against. While, what is shared does ultimately lie at the discretion of the user, I would appreciate greater clarity around how these tools treat and retain user information.
