India is set to host one of the largest blockchain and Web3 events of the year India Blockchain Week (IBW) 2024. Scheduled from November 30 to December 8, the event in Bangalore will see top global Web3 leaders, developers, and innovators converge to explore collaboration opportunities with India’s tech ecosystem. This year’s IBW is to strengthen India’s position as a key player in the global blockchain landscape, with a focus on accelerating mass adoption of blockchain technology across various industries.
A Global Stage for Blockchain Innovation
Returning for its second edition, India Blockchain Week has grown to become the country’s first ever multi chain platform, providing an open stage for the global blockchain community. The week long event will feature over 100 sessions, conferences, hackathons, and networking events designed to bring together global innovators, Indian developers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs. The flagship IBW Conference, Web3 Demo Day, IBW Hackathon, and the ETH India Hackathon are among the highly anticipated events during the week.
Tak Lee, CEO of Hashed Emergent, the Web3 venture capital firm hosting IBW, expressed enthusiasm for this year’s event. “Our goal is to foster collaboration across the Indian ecosystem by bringing together local innovators and global stakeholders. We’re excited to return with the second edition of IBW, continuing our work to nurture and grow the Web3 community in India and other emerging markets,” said Lee.
India’s Growing Blockchain Ecosystem
India has rapidly emerged as a global blockchain hub, contributing over 12% of the world’s Web3 developers and home to more than 1,000 blockchain startups. The Indian government’s focus on blockchain innovation has accelerated this growth, with initiatives like the National Blockchain Framework (NBF) aimed at enhancing digital governance and transparency. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Vishvasya Technology Stack provides Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) to facilitate the development of permissioned blockchain applications through data centers in Pune, Hyderabad, and Bhubaneswar.
A Platform for Cross-Border Partnerships
India Blockchain Week aims to serve as a bridge between global Web3 innovators and India’s booming developer and startup ecosystem. The IBW Conference, to be held on December 4-5 at the Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield Hotel, will host industry-leading speakers such as Sandeep Nailwal (Co-founder of Polygon), Avery Ching (Co-founder & CTO of Aptos), Keone Hon (CEO of Monad), and Chen Fang (COO of BitGo).
Avery Ching of Aptos Labs highlighted the importance of India’s developer community, saying, “India is home to incredibly talented developers and leaders who are advancing Web3 in remarkable ways. It’s inspiring to see the impact builders in India have had on the entire Aptos ecosystem.”
Similarly, Keone Hon of Monad emphasized India’s role in Web3 innovation, noting, “India is at a unique inflection point in Web3 adoption, with its thriving developer community, commitment to entrepreneurship, and pace of economic activity. I am excited to speak about opportunities for Monad Labs to collaborate with the local Web3 ecosystem in advancing blockchain innovation.”
Empowering Web3 Startups
India Blockchain Week is not just a forum for global players to connect with Indian developers; it is also a platform for Indian Web3 startups to showcase their innovations. The IBW Demo Day, scheduled for December 4, will spotlight 15 leading Indian Web3 startups, giving them an opportunity to pitch their projects to a global audience of investors, founders, and developers.
Additionally, the ETH India Hackathon, running from December 6-8, is expected to attract over 1,500 developers, making it one of the largest Ethereum-focused hackathons in the country. The IBW Hackathon will also see participation from over 250 developers, with the top 10 projects being presented at the India Blockchain Week 2024 Conference.
Driving Regulatory Conversations
India Blockchain Week will also play a critical role in shaping the future of cryptocurrency regulations in India. The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) is working closely with industry experts and stakeholders to draft a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency. The IBW Conference will serve as a platform for discussions between policymakers and industry leaders, providing insights into India’s evolving regulatory landscape and its potential impact on the blockchain ecosystem.
A Hub for Global Web3 Collaboration
With major sponsors like Polygon, Aptos, Starkware, and the Starknet Foundation, IBW 2024 is expected to draw significant international attention. Last year’s event featured key figures such as Vitalik Buterin (Co-founder of Ethereum) and Jayant Sinha (Former Member of Parliament), and this year’s edition promises to continue building on that momentum.
India Blockchain Week 2024 is set to be a key driver of blockchain innovation, bringing together the brightest minds in Web3 and positioning India as a critical hub for blockchain development on the global stage.
