- The Minecraft Movie, released on April 4, has not been well received, but it will reportedly make approximately $58 million its opening weekend.
Minecraft has teamed up with Walmart to introduce a new Java server called Walmart Skyward, along with exclusive merchandise for fans.
Launched Skyward server
Launched on March 21, this server offers players a space adventure where they begin their journey on Earth and travel across different planets in search of “The Golden Child.”
Players can experience this solo or with up to three friends through six unique episodes. The server is compatible with Minecraft version 1.21.4 and will remain active until May 15.
Those interested can find more details on the official Walmart Skyward website.

Exclusive Minecraft Merchandise at Walmart
Alongside the gaming experience, Walmart has released special Minecraft-themed merchandise, including collectibles inspired by the upcoming live-action movie.
Fans can find exclusive items in Walmart stores, such as Steve and Dennis 2-pack figures, Great Hog and Wild Boss figures, a Netherite Sword, Blast Attack Ghast, and a Squid Pillow Buddy.
Over the years, Minecraft has collaborated with major franchises like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Kung Fu Panda, ensuring the game remains exciting for players.
The Minecraft Movie, set to premiere on April 4, has sparked mixed reactions from fans. Some appreciate its creative approach, while others dislike the live-action format and humor.
The first trailer, released last year, faced backlash, with many calling it confusing. Director Jared Hess and producer Torfi Frans Olafsson acknowledged the challenges of adapting a sandbox game into a film, stating that fans have different interpretations of the game.
They also noted that many expected a CGI-animated movie instead of a live-action one.
McDonald’s and Walmart’s Metaverse Expansion
Despite the criticism, the film is projected to perform well, with opening weekend earnings estimated at $58 million. To enhance its promotion, the movie has partnered with McDonald’s, which will launch special Minecraft-themed meals starting April 1.
The Happy Meal will include one of 12 movie figurines or Block World toys, while another meal will feature one of six collectibles along with McDonald’s popular food items.
Walmart has also been expanding its presence in the metaverse over the past few years. Besides Skyward, it has introduced virtual experiences like Walmart Unlimited in collaboration with Spatial and Unity.
The retail giant has even integrated e-commerce into platforms like Zepeto, allowing users to buy both digital and physical products. Through Skyward, Walmart continues to blend gaming, retail, and entertainment, creating a new way for fans to engage with Minecraft both in-game and in stores.
