- AI write code 95% within five years.
- Instead of coding out every single line of code, coders will work instructing AI instead.
- Their task will be less of typing and more of telling the AI what to do.
Kevin Scott, the big tech boss at Microsoft, recently shared As AI Write Code, It’s Expected to Handle 95% of Programming. But don’t worry if you’re a coder, he’s quick to say that AI won’t take over the whole job. Humans will still be the ones in charge, coming up with the ideas and plans.
How will AI write code?
What Scott is saying is that AI will revolutionize the way coders do things, not do their jobs for them. Rather than writing each line of code manually, programmers will instruct the AI on what they need, in a similar manner to giving directions.
The AI will then crank out most of the code for them. “It’s like adding a new step,” Scott said. “We’ll go from being experts at writing code to being experts at telling AI what to do.”
AI’s Memory and the Future
Although AI is becoming more intelligent, it’s still not quite there. Scott noted that it has a problem with recalling details from previous conversations, so it feels a bit mechanical and robotic. “Currently, its memory is not very good,” he explained.
However, he is hopeful that it will get considerably better in the next year. In the near future, AI will be able to remember more about what you’ve previously told it and adapt to your way of doing things.
So, coding work isn’t vanishing it just will look different. Developers won’t spend so much time writing tedious, rote code but will have more time to break down big challenges, come up with new things, and make decisions for the AI.
With AI write code, software construction will happen faster and wittier, but humans will be the drivers behind the steering wheel. The future is something to look forward to, wherein technology and human intelligence combine to make incredible things happen!
